Liver Diseases
What is Fatty Liver?
Fatty liver, also known as steatosis, is a condition where excess fat builds up in liver cells. It’s a common condition, often without symptoms. There are two main types:
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): Not caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
Alcoholic fatty liver disease: Caused by heavy alcohol consumption.

What is Alcoholic Hepatitis ?
Alcoholic hepatitis is inflammation of the liver caused by excessive alcohol consumption. It can damage and scar the liver, potentially leading to cirrhosis. Symptoms include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes), and abdominal pain.

What is Steatohepatitis (NASH) ?
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a more serious form of NAFLD. In addition to fat buildup, the liver also shows signs of inflammation and cell damage. This can lead to fibrosis (scarring) and potentially cirrhosis if left untreated.

What is Viral Hepatitis ?
Viral hepatitis is an infection of the liver caused by viruses. There are several types, with different modes of transmission (blood, bodily fluids). Some types can become chronic and lead to liver damage. Common types include Hepatitis A, B, and C.

What is Liver Cirrhosis ?
Liver cirrhosis is the advanced stage of liver disease where healthy liver tissue is replaced by scar tissue. This can impair liver function and lead to complications like portal hypertension (high blood pressure in the portal vein). Symptoms include fatigue, jaundice, fluid buildup in the abdomen (ascites), and easy bruising or bleeding.

What is Portal Hypertension ?
Portal hypertension is a condition where blood pressure in the portal vein (vein carrying blood from the intestines to the liver) increases. This can be caused by cirrhosis or other conditions blocking blood flow through the liver. Symptoms include fatigue, ascites, esophageal varices (enlarged veins in the esophagus that can bleed), and confusion.

What is Liver tumors (Adenoma, Cysts, FNH, Hemangioma) ?
These are growths in the liver. Most are benign (noncancerous), such as adenomas (abnormal growths of liver cells), cysts (fluid-filled sacs), focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH, noncancerous growths), and hemangiomas (tumors from blood vessels). However, some liver tumors can be cancerous.

What is Hydatid liver disease?
Hydatid liver disease is a rare parasitic infection caused by tapeworm larvae. It can form cysts in the liver and other organs. Symptoms can vary depending on the size and location of the cyst.

What is Liver Cancer (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) ?
Liver cancer, also known as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is the most common type of primary liver cancer. It starts in the liver cells. Risk factors include cirrhosis, chronic viral hepatitis, and heavy alcohol consumption. Symptoms can include fatigue, weight loss, abdominal pain, and a mass in the liver.

What is Liver trauma ?
Liver trauma refers to an injury to the liver, often caused by blunt or penetrating force (accidents, falls). Symptoms can vary depending on the severity of the injury, ranging from mild pain to life-threatening bleeding.
